In November 1941 the first versions of the North American P-51 Mustang were delivered to the British and American Air Forces. The aerodynamics of the P-51 were so efficient that the British made an experiment and installed the high-performance Rolls-Royce Merlin engine. The legendary "Queen of the Skies" was born!
The P-51 possessed excellent range and manoeuvrability, great low and high-altitude performance. During the World War II the P-51 was an outstanding fighter and most feared by the enemy. The P-51 proved also perfect for escorting bombers all the way to the deepest targets. Even while the supersonic jet age the P-51 remained a very successful fighter and served in over 50 air forces worldwide. That is another proof of how excellent this aircraft was.
